The MMBP is an affiliate of the National Mountain Bike Patrol. Mountain bike patrollers are people who provide a volunteer service for the land management agencies that oversee their favorite trails. Whether they're in remote back country areas, or in urban parks, the MMBP has four major functions: - Help all trail users.
- Provide service and support to the land managers.
- Help preserve mountain biking trail opportunities.
- Have fun!

What's the biggest obstacle in keeping trails open? Any land manager will tell you, "We don't have the staff". Trails on public land require management. In many places mountain bikers are the largest segment of trail users and are in a great position to provide a valuable volunteer service while they're out riding. The Midwest Mountain Bike Patrol shares useful information with park rangers and land managers on things like: - Trail conditions (trail erosion, downed trees, and large branches).
- User counts and types (number of riders, hikers, horseback riders seen on the trail).
- Trash and graffiti.
- New trail ideas (which may link existing trails into bigger, better loops or provide a way to get from one popular area to another).
